The Alabama Legislature approved the state's Youthful Offender Act in order to shield young persons with otherwise good records from the harsh realities of the criminal justice system.Pretrial Diversion. Many jurisdictions in Alabama allow defendants with relatively clean records to enter pretrial diversion programs, which normally involve community service and limited counseling. Successful completion of the program means that the charge can be nol prossed, or dismissed.Adjudicated a Youthful Offender.
